‘Kids in Action’ provides support and social opportunities for children and young adults with special needs and disabilities. Our aim is to make a positive difference to each and every individual, encouraging their participation in social activities, in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Many young people with disabilities experience isolation and loneliness- our work helps to alleviate these negative experiences and has often been described as a life-line by families.

Our main facility is our centre in Dunstable, a building housing different accessible spaces for social interaction. We run weekly activities for children and young people and as many of our original members are now adults, we have a dedicated over 18s club too.

By providing facilities and support to young people, this has also enabled the organic growth of extended support to families, who have a shared experience of caring for a family member with disabilities. Having an extended ‘family’ sharing difficulties and positive experiences really helps- Kids in Action plays a very important role in this.

Since we moved to our current home in Dunstable in June 2014 we have seen a consistent growth in the number of children, young people and young adults from Herts Beds and Bucks with special needs attending our regular sessions. We have plans to expand our offering in the community, by upgrading, renewing and adding new equipment to widen the scope of activities and to increase the frequency of club sessions.

We are proud of what we have been able to achieve since we started the charity. From small beginnings, running a club once a week in a local community centre with 12 young people attending to now in our own (leased) building with 150 young people with special needs attending the various club days, evening and weekend sessions each week.
