For those who love their gadgets, the idea of a robotic vacuum that can swoop around your floors picking up bits or dust and dirt while you sat there with your feet up seems like the ideal when it comes to home cleaning.
The notion of a robotic vacuum has been experimented with for a number of years, as leading companies in the industry sought to create prototypes and models that would see them take a leading position.
The cost of creating the earliest robotic vacuums was unfortunately reflected in their commercial prices. That, inevitably, meant few customers were willing to splash out the kind of prices that were initially being asked for.
But these revolutionary vacuums have come a long way, as companies like iRobot, Dyson, Hoover and Miele to name a few have already released robotic vacuums in 2018 that are both reasonable in price and boast the latest technological advancements.
Why a robotic vacuum?
If you’re used to regular vacuum cleaners then you might not see the need for a robot to do what you yourself can do (fortunate that we stock a great range of vacuum cleaners at Direct Vacuums then, isn’t it).
But robotic vacuums do offer capabilities that more traditional models simply cannot. Many models feature monitoring technology and sensors that track where in your rooms they need to be, and intelligently navigate the obstacle course that can be the floor of your home.
Most models self-charge, feature high efficiency filters and can be customised to meet the user’s unique cleaning preferences.
Depending on the model, owners can set the robotic vacuum in motion either using buttons on the top of the device or with a remote control. Simply tell your vacuum what you want it to do, and watch it get on with the task at hand. Or alternatively, take the chance to get on with something else completely!
Control from your phone
Many models today come with an app that allows you to set your robotic vacuum in motion without even looking at it. Talk about convenient!
So if you wake up one morning and fancy a lie in, but want the floors and carpets in your downstairs living room and kitchen to be pristine be the time you come down for your coffee and cereal, you can use the app to literally set the wheels in motion.
Furthermore, if you’re out of the house and want to come home to a clean living area, with apps to complement your robotic vacuums you can get things clean and tidy within your house from miles away.
Having this kind of ability is truly innovative and is causing companies to re-evaluate the kind of interaction they offer between the appliance and the consumer.
Is now the time?
One thing that has somewhat hindered the development of robotic vacuums from both a development and commercial perspective is the fact they aren’t able to offer the kind capacity regular vacuum cleaners can.
So while they may look cool – and boy, do they look cool when they’re in action – they historically have not been able to offer the kind of efficacy required to usurp traditional vacuum cleaners when it comes to most consumers’ go-to option.
However, the battle to move ahead in this space has focused on providing more capacity, meaning that customers can avoid having to constantly empty their robotic vacuum because it’s full.
Additionally, more emphasis is being placed on suction power and introducing the best cleaning technology. That means robotic vacuums are getting closer and closer to the cleaning capabilities of regular vacuums, meaning the pros of owning one will only become more prominent.
As mentioned, when robotic vacuums first came on the scene, they cost a small fortune. That’s fortunately no longer the case.
Take a look at our range of robotic vacuums and you’ll see that a second mortgage is no longer needed to buy something to keep your house clean!
So if you’ve been tempted by a robotic vacuum but feared they won’t do the job of a regular vacuum or will be too expensive, think again.
What next?
Though robotic vacuums are still a progressing field, some companies are taking steps into other areas of robotic home appliances.
iRobot, for example, is offering robotic mopping tools and even robotic tools that go down into your swimming pool and scour and clean the floor!
It’s an exciting area of innovation and something that will certainly advance in the coming years.
But for now, make sure you check out the range of robotic vacuums we have on offer and see if you can revolutionise how you clean your home.
And, if you like what you see but aren’t quite ready to make the leap yet, we’re sure you’ll find something more suitable in our range of traditional vacuum cleaners. Why Now is the Right Time for a Robotic Vacuum
